Taylor Swift just got engaged to Travis Kelce, and the internet is losing it. The couple, both 35, shared the big news on August 27, 2025, with a cheeky floral-themed Instagram post.

Swift called herself the “English teacher” and Kelce the “gym teacher,” poking fun at their dynamic. But what really grabbed everyone's attention is that ring.

The moment you see it, you know this isn’t just another oversized celebrity rock. It is old-school, artistic, and packed with meaning.

The ring features an antique cut called the old mine brilliant. That is not just a fancy name. This means that diamonds were hand-cut back in the 18th or early 19th century, before modern machines existed. It has got 58 facets, and yes, 5 plus 8 equals 13. Swift’s fans know 13 is her lucky number.

Side stones add some extra sparkle, and the band tapers gently, making it feel like a vintage heirloom passed down through generations. It is bold, but still feels soft and romantic.

The diamond is estimated to be between 7 and 13 carats. That puts it in the supersized celebrity ring category, but it is not just about size. Elongated cushion cuts like this are rare. They are made by hand, and it is almost impossible to find two that match.

Swift / IG / The diamond is bezel-set in yellow gold, with detailed hand engravings on the band. There is at least one “T” carved in, likely standing for Taylor or Travis.

That rarity, plus the antique craftsmanship, has jewelers estimating its value anywhere from $250,000 to over $4 million. Jared Jewelers went conservative, pegging it at $250K to $500K. Others say it could be worth millions thanks to its age and unique cut.

The Artist Behind the Ring

The ring was designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry. She is a self-made jeweler known for hand-engraved pieces. Before this, she had a solid niche following. Now, she is on the global stage. Working with Travis Kelce to bring this vision to life put her on the map in a major way.

Lubeck didn’t just slap a big diamond on a band. She created a piece of art. It blends old-world craftsmanship with personal symbolism, and that is what makes it stand out in a sea of over-the-top rings.

Sure, Taylor Swift now joins the supersized club. Georgina Rodríguez rocks a 25–35 carat diamond. Lauren Sanchez Bezos has a 30-carat pink stone. But those rings are all about size.

There has been a quiet movement toward antique stones, and Swift just made it loud. Elongated cuts like hers, or ovals and marquises, are getting hot. Yellow gold is having a moment, too. It feels warmer and more personal than platinum or white gold.

Swift / IG / In her song "Paper Rings", Swift says she'd marry someone with a ring made of paper. So yeah, the ring isn’t the point. But if you are going to go big, why not do it your way?

Every time Taylor Swift wears something, it sells out. Her ring is no exception. Jewelers are already reporting more interest in antique-style diamonds, hand engraving, and yellow gold settings. The only issue? Old mine cuts are rare. You can’t just mass-produce them.

What About Ethics?

Taylor Swift's diamond is antique, which means it avoids the issues tied to modern diamond mining. That is a big plus, but experts also say that old stones come with a complicated history. There is not always documentation on how they were sourced.

Lab-grown diamonds are becoming more popular. More than half of engagement rings now include them. They are often seen as more ethical, but even that is not a perfect solution. There are still debates about energy use and economic impacts. No choice is completely clean.
