Three Surprising Reasons Destinations Weddings Are the Answer to Tight Budgets

wedding destinationsGetting engaged is awesome…

Until you start putting together your wedding budget.

Who knew that centerpieces, a DJ, renting a venue, plus booze could be so darn expensive. And then as soon as you post the news on social media everyone and their uncle expects a wedding invite.

That honeymoon you always dreamed of sinks further and further down the priority list as you attempt to figure out a way to feed all the people who plan to show up at your nuptials.

If you can relate it’s times you consider the destination wedding.

I know, I know what you’re thinking.

Isn’t travel adding more expense to my already busting budget?

Possibly, but only if you do it wrong (we’re not talking Bora Bora here).

The most affordable places to wed are in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico and Hawaii. And when planned well the destination wedding is the perfect solution to a tight budget and here are 3 reasons why.

Reason 1: Cut the Guest List

The pressure to invite everyone to your wedding is draining. And a guest list that’s too large is a major concern for couples on a budget. A destination wedding is an excellent solution to reduce your guest list.

Not everyone will be able to afford to make it your wedding, so they’ll be less inclined to ask where their invitation is when it doesn’t arrive. You’ll also find that not all of the people you invite are able to make the trip – which is great news for you as you’ll be able to reduce your head count for food and beverage.

Use a relative or someone in your wedding party to feel out the guests to get an idea of who can and cannot make a trip out of town. Then when you send out the invitations expect that about 55% of the guests who are invited will not be able to make it to the wedding.

Make sure that you request the RSVPs in enough time to alert the hotel to changes in the amount of rooms that your guests will reserve. Your guest list will immediately be cut down to those people who really want to be there for your wedding and not just crash the party for food and fun.

Reason 2: You Get Free Stuff

Resorts and hotels love giving away free things to couples to get them to book a group of rooms at their property. So don’t be afraid to barter when you prospect destinations for your wedding. Negotiate adding to the amenities for yourself – like nights free, champagne, breakfast, hair, make-up, etc.

Also destination wedding  packages typically come with an on-site wedding planner. A luxury that you may not be able to afford if you plan in town at a hall. This is another hassle marked off your list and it saves you some cash.

And decor? No need for it. You’re already in a beautiful location. Ask the wedding planner what decorations are included in your package – and if there are none guests will simply enjoy the views at your destination.

Reason 3: Wedding, Honeymoon, Reunion

Quite possibly my favorite reason – you kill three birds with one stone.

You won’t have to spend more cash on your honeymoon because you’re already there. Whether you want an intimate gathering or medium sized celebration, your wedding turns into a honeymoon and reunion.

What other time in your life do your very best friends and family come together in the same spot on vacation?

Likely never. So you can use this as an opportunity to have your honeymoon with the one’s you love. What’s more awesome than everyone in one amazing location for your big day?

Now over to you! Have you planned a destination wedding? Do you have any other reasons to share?
