After a successful blogger meet up last week, we’re spending this weekend getting some mundane tasks done. As we wrote about in our goal setting post, we’re taking the next step towards moving our RRSP investments out of mutual funds and into a self directed brokerage account. The plan is to start with some ETF’s but it will be nice to have the option of dividends as well. We’ve got an appointment with our bank this morning to figure out the logistics of transferring our money out and into another brokerage.

Garden Party

We’re also planning (weather permitting) to scope out our two garden plots for the first time this year. We’re pretty excited to apply everything we learned from last year. We even have a staggered crop plan to increase our yearly yield! It will still be a couple months until we can plant, but the weather is getting nicer so we can start getting everything ready.

  1. Liquid says:

Thanks for the mention and link back. Good luck with the portfolio transfer 😀 It’s sometimes hard to decide whether to buy index ETFs or individual stocks. I like buying stocks because it forces me to do the research on businesses beforehand and I often learn a lot about them in the process 🙂 But I have ETFs as well for sectors of the market that I don’t really spend a lot of time analyzing like bonds.

  2. Love the idea of a garden plot. I’m looking forward to planting some tomatoes this year!

  3. I hope to garden for the first time in my life this Spring/Summer. I used to help with my parent’s garden back in the day, but had little interest at the time since I didn’t personally see the benefit as much as I do now (as I’m sure is the same reason many teenagers didn’t have much interest in their parent’s gardens!).

Very cool that you got mentioned on CBS’ Money Watch!
