I got a BBQ!

Brian and I used to have a little portable BBQ but it was stolen while we were living in good old East Vancouver. Since then, we’ve moved a few times and have not lived in a building with outdoor space. At our current location however, we have a HUGE balcony that’s just asking for a BBQ. I love BBQ’d foods. I’ve been searching for a BBQ for a few months now and conveniently, one became available nearby. So Brian and I picked up a BBQ this past weekend. The total cost? Free!

If you’re looking for free to almost-free upgrades as well, it’s pretty easy. I just downloaded a Craigslist app for my phone and set up an automatic search for free BBQ’s. Everytime someone posted a BBQ for free in my area, the app notified me. It even connects with your email application and lets you email sellers directly from the app. I’ve also used a similar search function to look for jobs, hair cuts and shelving. It’s a great, painless way to find cool stuff on Craigslist.

After emailing the seller and getting a positive response, the only thing left to do was pick it up. So while the BBQ itself was free, we do incur some incidental costs. These are a fraction of the cost of a new BBQ though. It cost us about $10 for the car sharing vehicle. It will cost us an additional $25 or so to get a new propane tank. In the end, for $35 and a bit of cleaning, we have a fully functioning BBQ.

I even rigged up a BBQ cover for it using garbage bags and packing tape. No way in hell I was going to buy a cover for $40 and up! 🙂
