landscape-1160264_1920Paying your bills are a must. You have certain financial requirements each month that can’t really be compromised or negotiated like your rent, mortgage or utility bills for example.

You can however, stop paying for other expenses in your life with the intent to save more. If you’ve been having issues with budgeting, saving, and making ends meet, there are quite a few things you can choose to stop spending money on period. While it’s great to go after big wins like slashing your insurance premiums in half, cutting out the smaller expenses can help your savings add up quite a bit as well so it’s worth the initial effort plus there are other simple life hacks for you to spend less too.

Here are 4 things you should stop spending money on and obtain for free instead.

Water

Clean water should always be free. While there are some exceptions like the areas of the world don’t have access to clean running water, modern societies tend to charge people for water in order to make a profit. You can see a clear example of this whenever you walk into your local grocery store and see cases of water bottles on display. They may seem cheap at first but once you consider how much water your family drinks and how the price can add up over time, it becomes just another pesky expense that you have to deal with.

While water bottles only cost a few dollars, you can eliminate that spending completely by purchasing a water filter to attach to your sink so you can get clean water whenever you need it. The filter will be pricer than your typical case of water, but the initial investment will save you money over time. Plus, if you are purchasing water bottles constantly and not recycling them, you aren’t helping the environment. If you are going out for the day and need to take water with you, purchase a reusable water bottle and fill it up at your home so you won’t have to pay for a water bottle when you are out.

Cable

Getting rid of cable and streaming movies and televisions shows on your device from Netflix and Hulu to your television can save you a ton of money. Cable television has lost its’ value over the years since a majority of programs offered with cable packages can be found online for much cheaper prices or even for free. Channels like MTV and other networks share all of their episodes on their website for free about 24-hours after each show airs. While streaming websites and apps like Netflix aren’t free, they only cost a few dollars in order to receive access to hundreds of options for the entire family.

Oil Changes

Coupons can become your best friend if you know how to use them at. You just need to keep your eyes peeled for opportunities and offers you may receive in the mail. One of the most popular offers that many auto shops like to provide customers with is a free basic oil change. Getting regular oil changes is one of the best ways to maintain the longevity of your car. Some oil changes can cost anywhere from $20-$50+.

You can save money on oil changes by signing up to receive mail offers at an auto shop that provides them and cashing in the coupons you receive. YOu can also sign up as a mystery shopper to get oil changes and tons of other services for not cost.

ATM Fees

Stop paying money to get your own money out of the bank. If you need money on the fly, stopping by an ATM can see convenient, but the fees are just not worth it in the long run. Ideally, you should never have to pay ATM fees but if your bank is smaller or out of the area, you should see if you bank has an app that will allow you to search for free ATMs near you, opt for cash back at a local retailer, or use a general ATM finder app to locate an ATM in your banks’ network.
